70% Of Electrify America’s US DC Fast Chargers Are 150 kW

Across the 2,193 Electrify America “corridor/market” DC fast chargers located throughout the US (but excluding California sites), 1,527 or 69.6% of the total at the end of 2021 were 150 kW chargers, according to analysis of the April 30, 2022 Electrify America 2021 Report to the US EPA by EVAdoption.

US DC Fast Chargers Increased 24% in 2021 Vs. 2020

The number of DC fast chargers (ports) grew by more than 4,200, an increase of 24 percent at the end of 2021 versus year-end 2020, according to new EVAdoption, LLC analysis based on Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) data.

EVs Using the CHAdeMO Connector Have the Best EV to Charger Ratio in the US

When looking at the ratio of the total sales from 2010 to 2021 of the Nissan LEAF and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (the two CHAdeMO using EVs available in the US) to the number of DC fast chargers in the US, drivers of these CHAdeMO-using EVs actually have the best ratio of vehicles to chargers at 31 EVs to 1 DC fast charger.

New Jersey Has The Highest Ratio of EVs to Charger Ports

The state of New Jersey, which as as of September 31, 2021 had the 6th most cumulative EVs in the US, had the highest ratio of EVs to charger ports at 41.3 to 1. In a distant second place, California with 930,811 cumulative EVs, had a ratio of 27.2 to 1 charger port.

At the end of August, the Tesla Supercharger network reached 11,125 DC fast charger ports across the US, accounting for 57.1% of all DCFC ports. With 1,118 locations, however, the Supercharger network accounted for only 20.1% of the total DCFC locations.
