Toyota Motor Corp. reached the 200,000 electric vehicles sold in the US in Q2 2022, and next up as we’ve long forecasted is Ford Motor Co. Ford only needs to sell roughly 11,500 EVs in Q3 to reach the federal EV tax credit phaseout threshold.
With sales of the Mustang Mach-E increasing and both the E-Transit van and F-150 Lightning production gearing up, it would likely take a significant supply chain issue, recall, or factory halting production altogether for Ford not to hit the milestone.
As a reminder, the federal tax credit is phased out over 5 quarters following the quarter when 200,000 sales are reached. For more detail, visit this page: How The Federal Electric Vehicle (EV) Tax Credit Works.
