Across the 2,193 Electrify America “corridor/market” DC fast chargers located throughout the US (but excluding California sites), 1,527 or 69.6% of the total at the end of 2021 were 150 kW chargers, according to analysis by EVAdoption of the April 30, 2022 Electrify America 2021 Report to the US EPA. 613 or 28% were 350 kW and 53 or 24.2% were 50 kW.
At most of Electrify America’s DC fast charging locations with four chargers, the company formed as a Volkswagen offshoot from the Dieselgate settlement, deploys an equal number of two 150 kW and two 350 kW DC fast chargers. However, at locations with 6, 8 or 10 total DC fast chargers, the number of 350 kW chargers were capped at 2 (and even 1 at a few locations), with the balance being 150 kW chargers.
Electrify America’s mix of 150 kW and 350 kW DC fast chargers makes sense most non-Tesla EVs available today can only charge at up to 150 kW (with a few between 150 and 220 kW), and several including the Porsche Taycan, Lucid Air, and Kia EV 6 able to charge at up to 350 kW.
Electrify America’s corridor and urban market DC fast chargers in the report to the EPA are those located along major highway corridors or at shopping and outlet malls and similar locations. Electrify America issues a separate report for California which is why this US report does not include California locations.
