Tesla Has Accounted for Nearly 4 of Every 10 EVs Sold To Date in California

Through September 2021 (Q3), 380,620 Tesla electric vehicles have been sold in California — accounting for 62% of all BEVs sold, according to data from the California Energy Commission/California DMV.

When including PHEVs in the total EVs sold in California since 1998, Tesla has accounted for 38.8% of EVs sold.

And YTD through September (Q3) of 2021, Tesla has accounted for 71% of all BEVs sold in the Golden State, and 50.9% of all electric vehicles. The majority of Tesla’s sales have come since the launch of the Model 3 in 2017, followed by the Model Y in 2020. With a number of new BEVs coming to market in the US in the next 12 months, Tesla will remain the EV sales leader in both California and the US, but could see its market share decline fairly significantly.
