Mean and Median EPA Range for BEVs Available in the US 2013-2020

Range continues to be a key concern for buyers of electric vehicles, but we are steadily making our way toward 300 miles of mean and median range for BEVs available in the US. In the chart below you can see the average BEV range has ticked up consistently since 2013 to about 250 miles of range by the end of 2020.

We’ll be updating our forecast for EPA range averages in the future, but we expect that BEVs available in the US will reach the magic 300 miles threshold likely in 2024, though possibly 2023. Both the mean and median numbers can be a little misleading, however, as with several Tesla, Lucid, GMC Hummer and other models in the 400 or mile miles of range — they can skew the averages a bit.
