Average & Median Range, Battery Pack Size, & Miles/kWh of US Available PHEVs

As of August 6, 2019 there are 25 plug-in electric hybrid vehicles available in the US. BMW offers five, Mercedes-Benz four, and Volvo has three available PHEV models. Porsche, Kia, and Hyundai offer two PHEVs in the US.

The key recent changes to the list include the addition of the Subaru Crosstrek PHEV and GM’s ending production of the groundbreaking Chevrolet Volt, as well as the Cadillac CT-6 sedan. GM has announced that all future EVs will be BEVs. Audi has also stopped selling the A3 e-tron Sportback with the e-tron SUV now available.

Across the 25 PHEVs, the average and median range is 21.6 and 21.o miles respectively. This range is produced from an average battery pack size of 10.0 kWh and median size of 9.2 kWh. This translates to 2.2 miles of range per kWh on average and a median of 2.0 miles per kWh.
