Kia EV6 and Hyundai IONIQ 5 Selling Well, But YTD Are Behind Mustang Mach-E

The Tesla Model Y will be the highest-selling EV in the US in 2022 (with the Tesla Model 3 being second). But one interesting race to watch is which BEV crossover will take second place?

Only a few automakers report US sales each month, but comparing crossovers from Ford, Hyundai, and Kia through May and it looks like the Mustang Mach-E should outsell the IONIQ 5 and EV 6. So far the three BEVs are only separated by an average of about 1,000 units per month.

US Sales of the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6, and Ford Mustang Mach-E for January - May 2022

The comparison is of course unfair, as the Mustang Mach-E has been for sale since December 2020 and the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 only arrived at dealers in the US in January and February of this year respectively. But the second half of the year will be exciting to watch, especially when including the Volkswagen ID.4, Chevrolet Bolt EV/EUV, and other new BEVs becoming available.
