Tesla, GM, and VW Accounted for 43% of Global BEV Sales: Jan-April 2021

No surprise, Tesla has sold the most BEVs globally from January 1 through April 30, 2021, according to a new client report from Morgan Stanley using data from EV-volumes.com. When combined with GM and Volkswagen, those three automakers accounted for 43% of global BEV sales for the first four months of 2021.

The number 7-10 automakers are the Chinese automakers Great Wall, SAIC, Nio, and GAC, which accounted for 12% of global sales. We expect Tesla, GM, and VW to increase their combined market share percentage this year as sales of the Volkswagen ID.4 takes off in the US and Europe, Model Y production increases in China, and strong sales continue with the HongGuang Mini EV from GM’s Chinese Wuling brand.

In March, the HongGuang Mini EV outsold the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y combined in China.
