DC Fast Charging Ports & Locations – Tesla vs. All Others

We recently analyzed the charging network statistics for the US and compared the number of DC fast charging ports (connections) and locations for the Tesla Supercharger network versus all others. And no surprise, Tesla continues to dominate with 56.4% of all DC fast charging ports in the US.

The Supercharger network, however, only accounts for 20.4% of all DCFC locations. Unlike the other networks, Tesla installs many more charging stations per location with an average of 9.9 per location versus a tiny 1.9 across all other networks. The difference makes sense at this stage of the EV market, however, as Tesla dominates EV sales and owners have no qualms about taking their Tesla’s on road trips.

On the flip, a lot of non-Tesla owners are a bit more reluctant to drive 500 mile road trips and so utilization at the other networks can be as low as only a few charging sessions per port per day.
