For the period of 2018 through 2020, sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs – not including PHEVs) were flat to down. But because overall vehicle sales also declined, BEVs’ share of total vehicle sales actually increased. EVAdoption forecasts California BEV sales share jumping to 6.1% in 2021 and then increasing steadily to 56.6% by the end of 2030.
EVs in California Consume An Estimated 0.4% of Peak Grid Demand
According to estimates from the California Energy Commission (CEC), electric vehicles in California only consume 0.4% of grid demand during the peak hours of 4-9 pm.
