For the period of 2018 through 2020, sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs – not including PHEVs) were flat to down. But because overall vehicle sales also declined, BEVs’ share of total vehicle sales actually increased. EVAdoption forecasts California BEV sales share jumping to 6.1% in 2021 and then increasing steadily to 56.6% by the end of 2030.
In Q1 2023, California overall reached 21.1% ZEV sales share, while the average ZEV sales share by county was 15% and the median was 13.1%. The Golden State had four counties (those with at least 50 ZEV sales in the quarter) with a greater than 30% ZEV sales share.
The Rivian Adventure Network (DC fast charging) could end 2023 as the 7th largest DC fast charging network in the US and is on pace for the #5 slot in 2-3 years. Rivian’s typical DCFC site has 6 DC fast chargers.
The ratio of the number of new BEV units sold in the US to the number of newly-added DC fast charger ports increased to 110 to 1 in 2022, from 81 to 1 in 2021. The increase is due to new BEV sales outpacing the rate of newly added DC fast chargers in the US.
