BEVs available in the US (currently and through the next few months) now average 250 miles of range and are powered by battery packs that average 70 kWh. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) average 21.9 miles of range (in electric mode) with 10 kWh as the average battery pack size.
Around 2023-2024, the average BEV available in the US will have at or near the magical 300 miles of range that a majority of US consumers have said in multiple surveys is the minimum range they want before considering the purchase of an EV. Not included in the data is the upcoming Ford Mustang Mach-E, which a few days ago the Extended-range version was officially certified with 300 miles of EPA range. This makes the Mach-E, the first non-Tesla to achieve 300 or more miles of EPA range.
