How Many EVs Does GM Actually Have in the Pipeline for the US Market?

GM Models 2017-2025-featured image

If you include BrightDrop, GM’s electric delivery van division, GM could have11 BEVs available in 2025. This estimate assumes that both the Bolt EV and EUV will have been discontinued by then and that at least one as of yet unconfirmed new BEVs — an electric Cadillac Escalade — will reach dealers by 2025.

Automotive Brands By Number of California EV Registrations To Date

Automakers by EV Sales Percentage to date in California

Since 1998 when the California DMV began tracking EV registrations, unsurprisingly Tesla has dominated EV sales and through September 30, 2021 the company has accounted for 38.4% of all EV (both BEV and PHEV) registrations. In fact, Tesla has sold more EVs in California than the next four brands combined (37.6%): Chevrolet (14.0%), Toyota (10.4%), […]

Jaguar to Go All Electric in 2025 – Recent Sales May Be A Reason

jaguar-US-sales-market-share-2005-2020

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced that its Jaguar brand will become an EV-only brand beginning in 2025. At least in the US, this is likely a survival strategy as the brand had its lowest market share in 2020 since 2015. With the luxury market from Lucid Motors to Audi, BMW, Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz going electric, Jaguar […]

GM’s EV Sales: 2010 to 2020

GMs Annual Cumulative US EV Sales 2010-202

With the killing of the Chevrolet Volt, GM’s US EV sales have actually declined 3 straight years. And surprisingly, in only 3 years has GM had lower EV sales in the US than in 2020 (2010, 2011, 2015). My 2025 GM US EV forecast (see latest article)  is almost the same (241,000) as the cumulative […]

Tesla Dominates DC Fast Charging Connections in the US

While the various fast charging networks continue to grow at a fast clip, the Tesla Supercharger network has maintained its recent dominance at a 54% market share based on number of connections. The Tesla Supercharger network, however, drops to a more earthly level at 22% when based on the number of US locations.

Legacy Automakers Are Critical to Meet Various Group’s 2030 EV Goals

Various groups such as the new EV lobbying group Zero Emission Transportation Association (ZETA) and the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) have a direct or indirect target goal of 100% EV share of US new vehicle sales in 2030. (Read my article based on RMI’s goal – Can the US Reach 50 Million EVs in Operation by […]

Current and Future Light-Duty Electric Vehicle Factories in North America

Current-and-Future-Light-Duty-Electric-Vehicle-Factories-in-North-America

Another database I’ve begun building is of factories that are currently, or will in the next few years, assemble all or parts (not including battery factories) of BEVs and PHEVs in North America. I’ve identified 18 so far. This database will have more than a dozen data points. Let me know if I’ve gotten anything wrong in […]

Electric Deliver Vans Available Today/Near-Term in No. American and Europe

Delivery vans might be the first vehicle segment to go 100% electric for several key reasons, including: A small number of large customers, e.g., shipping carriers A much lower total cost of ownership (TCO) which is key for fleet managers. They help companies like Amazon, UPS, FedEx and others achieve their corporate sustainability goals. Delivery […]

Volkswagen ID.4 Versus Tesla Model Y

Volkswagen’s ID.4 BEV crossover could be one of the most important EVs to help drive EV adoption in the US. It’s specifications or looks won’t wow you, but it’s effective cost might. While it isn’t entirely fair to compare the dual motor, AWD Tesla Model Y with 65 more miles of range to the RWD ID.4 […]

Honda: Disappearing From the EV Scene

In 2018, Honda had one of the hottest-selling EVs in the US (and especially California), with the plug-in hybrid version of its Clarity sedan ranking 5th in EV sales. But Clarity sales have dropped like a rock to my estimate of 3,500 for the year 2020. Ouch. Honda’s EV plans for the US are unclear, but they […]
